Trail is located next to the Šlītere lighthouse and leads along the cliffs of the Blue Mountains to the big oak, which is home to both a natural rarity - a colony of bright ants and various other insects associated with old hollow trees.
Walking along the trail, insects can be explored by nature friends of all ages. The stand "Pollinating insects" contains comprehensive information for students and adults, while the smallest on the trail has a cube puzzle that allows you to find out the connections between flowers, different insects and larvae.
On the trail you can also see a specially built insect hotel, which gathers under its roof both known insect species and natural rarities. At the sides of the trail there is also a very special exhibit - Kārklu dore pine, which was moved from Pāce to Slītere National Park and complements the story about the importance of bees in human life. It is a several-meter-high, impressively thick section of a pine tree with a “given” dori or apiary, which is an artificial cavity for a bee colony. Along with the exhibit, those interested can learn more about forest beekeeping in North Kurzeme at the stands.
Slītere National Park is one of the most diverse places in Latvia in terms of insects. Both southern Central European species and northern Siberian taiga inhabitants can be found here. Some insects, such as the six-centimeter-long large woodpecker or the very bright shiny woodpecker, are natural rarities that symbolize Slitere's role in preserving natural diversity.
