One of the oldest Liv settlements, mentioned in documents as a village already in 1387. In the 17th century, when the village was owned by Maideļi, the nobility of Dundaga, one of the most important small ports on the coast of North Kurzeme was established in Sīkrags. At the end of the century, the village had large warehouses, which in 1690 stored 12,000 pieces of rye. There was also a "hotel" for sailors. In his poetry written in 1721, J. Bankavs, the pastor of Dundaga, sings that the ships, coming from England, Holland and Lübeck, had brought coal, grain and various popular goods here, which had to be stored in Sīkrags.
The small ports of North Kurzeme ceased to exist at the beginning of the 18th century (the Northern War, the economic and political decline of the Duchy of Courland). They were then used only as fishing ports.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the buildings of the village became denser, as fishermen's small rooms and new farms were built in various places.
The village is a monument of urban planning of national significance, therefore at least in its central part the historical buildings, building structure, road network, fencing systems, landscape, characteristic silhouette, etc. must be preserved. The boundaries of the urban planning monument include the plots of land belonging to the farms “Ķeļķi”, “Jaunklāvs”, “Kilasidamu”, “Vīnamegu”, “Tiļļi”, “Baznīckalns”, “Līvkalns”, “Jaunklāvs” and “Vecvalka”, the existing buildings, communications cemetery.
Be quiet, do not damage the infrastructure and property, bring the waste with you.
